Oven with side-hinged door makes it easier for wheelchair users with impaired balance to place bakeware in oven and to remove it

Description
Oven with side-hinged door and large handle. There is a pull-out board under the oven. The oven is installed in a tall cabinet at sitting height.

Technique for removing hot bakeware from oven:
User supports himself with his elbow on pull-out board, folds a towel and places it on his hand. Then he pulls the baking dish from the rack until he reaches a balance point and moves it onto the pull-out board. From there he moves it to a cutting board that he has on his lap.

Authors comments
This technique works well for the user. He does not use bakeware that is too large or heavy.
