Ride a bus in a wheelchair

Independent mobility in a bus with low step-in height

Description
Even with buses with low step-in height, there is a small difference in level between the curb and the bus. The user drives up to the bus and lifts up the front wheels so they end up in the bus. He bends forward while pressing the push rims forward with a closed grip. The same technique is used to go up a curb, see attached tip.

Description of technique according to the book ‘Drivkraft’ [Driving force] by Ake Norsten, see below.

Authors comments
For a description of more driving techniques, see the book ‘Drivkraft körergononmi, rullstolsteknik & metodik’ [Driving force driving ergonomics, wheelchair techniques and methods] by Åke Norsten (in Swedish).
May be ordered from Spinalis, Rehabstation Stockholm via the Rehabstation website, www.rehabstation.se (last checked July 2017).

Tip is dated from 2011
