Go down an indoor ramp in a wheelchair

Technique for people with strong arms

User goes down a ramp, filmed by Madeleine Stenius, Rehab Station Stockholm

The user goes down the ramp on all four wheels. He leans his upper body backwards over the edge of the backrest. He determines the speed by adjusting the friction between his hands and the push rims.

Description of technique according to the book ‘Drivkraft’ [Driving force] by Ake Norsten, see below.

Users comments
Going down a hill balanced on the rear wheels (see related tip) is easier, safer and more comfortable after mastering this technique.

For a description of more driving techniques, see the book ‘Drivkraft körergononmi, rullstolsteknik & metodik’ [Driving force driving ergonomics, wheelchair techniques and methods] by Åke Norsten. The book is available in Swedish and may be ordered from Spinalis, spinalis.se/?lang=en or Aleris Rehabstation Stockholm, aleris.se/rehabstation (last checked December 2020).
