Picking a baby up from the floor

- a technique for people with tetraplegia

Technique for picking a baby up from the floor

The user positions himself so that the child is sitting in front of him on the floor. He bends forward and grasps the baby from behind, under the shoulders. Leaning forward, he lifts the child up to a standing position next to him, looking away from him. Then he changes his grip so that the child’s stomach rests on his forearm. While using his other forearm to support himself on his lap, he lifts the child halfway up, and as he sits up by pushing off with the forearm on his lap, he lifts the baby up all the way to his lap.

The user figured out the technique when his child was small and couldn’t stand up by herself. Now that the child knows how to stand he uses a different technique, see related tip.
